“Stub” Foley of Colorado passed away yesterday morning at the age of 95 years young. He was only five days shy of his 96th Birthday and had more spirit and zest than most 26-year-olds I know.
Not only was he just cute as a bug with the biggest heart, he was a tremendous ambassador for pool in the Denver area. The man would invite people over for free lessons on the table in his basement, he constantly donated his time and money to all pool-related causes, and up until just a couple years ago he actively played leagues on a weekly basis. Even as his health declined he still refused to slow down. That didn’t surprise anyone as “Stub” was the name he was given early on for his stubbornness (so he tells the story).
I will never forget the time he spent four hours with me and my teammate, showing us the diamond system on his table. The man just LOVED pool!
He was full of life and kindness. His motto:
I like people and never know a stranger!
Ain’t that the truth! He was/is loved by so many in (and outside of) the pool community. He touch the heart of every single person he ever came in contact with. He always had a way of making you feel so special and he genuinely cared for everyone.
The above photo was taken only a few weeks before I began my whirlwind romance/elopement with my husband so I hadn’t spent much time with him since last fall. My biggest regret was not getting to see him again and that Marc never got to meet this great man.
Rest In Peace, Stub. You deserve it!
