Tampa – Day 1

We arrived today in sunny Tampa and checked into our kick-a$$ ocean-front place that I got a total internet steal on!

10 minutes from the airport and the poolroom. Only 55 bucks a night with AAA. SWEET!

Everything begins Friday afternoon so today and tomorrow is all about getting acclimated to the climate and resting/relaxing before the tournament. YAY!

And check it out, I dodged the bad weather in Colorado last week and I’ll miss it here too.

After a lovely stroll and meal, we headed to Strokers II so I could check out the equipment.

Immediately, I was reminded of how thankful I am that there’s no smoking in Colorado and Minnesota poolrooms. Yuck! I was also reminded of how humid the pool balls get in Florida. It took about an hour but I still feel good and am very thankful for all the practice I’ve been able to get over the past few weeks and for all the great players that have been kind enough to spar with me.

Touristy day tomorrow with a couple more hours of practice. I don’t want to overdo it.

I’m so happy to finally be here…

  1. I don’t suppose we will be seeing you play via a stream will we?

I did a little surfing and the APA has no mention of the event on their top page.

    Eventually I found the websites,
http://www.usamateurchampionship.com/ and http://www.mystrokers.com/, but neither has mention of a stream…

    Good luck,
    Chuck

  2. Are they really going to be smoking in that place during the US Amateur championships?

  4. Yes, really. And I will be second-hand smoking at least a pack a day this weekend.

Not sure about the streaming but the brackets will be online. I’ll keep you posted here.

Thanks for the well wishes! YAY!
