GREAT Advice here Samm — I never looked at the side shots so deliberately before but you’re right!! It’s way easier to get on the 8 ball with the 3 railer … it’s one of my favorite shots to hit but I don’t position to play it as often as I should — thanks!!

Good article Samm and playing shape for the side pocket is sometimes the right move and often overlooked. Only I have to disagree with you in your example.

Drawing off the 6 ball to a small position window to then do a 3 railer for shape on the 8? This breaks the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid) rule.

I’d hit a stop shot on the 6 then shoot the 7 to get shape back to the middle of the table (or further). I really dont think the scratch in the side really comes into play going from the 7 to the 8 if hit it with a stun draw.

An insightful and fine article that makes the point of considering the table (bar table or big table) when deciding the pocket to choose. Nice job.
