Ever since the BCA Pool League announced their new policy on phenolic tips, many people have been in seek of a replacement tip for their break cues. The new policy states:
“THE CUE TIP ON BREAK CUES MUST BE MADE OF LEATHER WITH NO NON-LEATHER MATERIALS ADDED TO THE CONTACTING SURFACE.”
Tiger was kind enough to send me a second break shaft for my IceBreaker with the Tiger Jump/Break tip. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Here’s the thing, I loved the original IceBreaker tip that was on there and I still love it on the big table, but the new jump/break tip breaks great on the bar box! Which is perfect since that’s the only time I’ll need it. I don’t feel like I’m losing any speed, but I have just as much control and accuracy.
Truthfully, I still prefer the IceBreaker tip for jumping. So, now I have my IB shaft for the big table and my JB shaft for the bar table. It’s the simple things in life…

Are you really in compliance if you’re still using a phenolic tip to break racks on the big tables?
Actually, for me, the only time I’m competing in tournaments using BCA rules are on the bar tables, so YES.
Is that BCA or BCAPL/CSI that adopted the new rule?
Well, it’s the BCA Pool League or BCAPL. Currently, this only really applies to BCAPL Nationals or any regional events and mainly on the bar tables. I have not heard of any professional, big table events that are enforcing this policy.
I’m curious if they will be enforcing it at the NCS championships.
