Boy am I glad I decided last year would be my final year to play Valley. The following message comes directly from the VNEA website:
“The Tournament Committee has experimented with the dollar coin and tokens over the past several years. The dollar coin has become more and more difficult to obtain and the ease of token duplication has caused the VNEA to pursue other options.
The Committee has decided to implement a “Green Fee” per event and
therefore eliminating the need for coins on site. This procedure will reduce labor substantially and also eliminate the risk of any breakins and theft. This player-friendly move will eliminate the players from worrying about change and changer problems for any match.”
Green Fees are as follows:
$200 Open Team
$140 Womens Open Team
$175 Intermediate Team
$120 Womens Intermediate Team
$200 Masters Team
$140 Womens Masters Team
$35 All Singles
See the VNEA website more tournament details.
I wonder if they’re going to collect the green fees with the entry fees or try to collect ala carte in Vegas? Wow, sounds like a nightmare I’m glad I’m not a part of. Either weaker teams won’t want to pay it with their entry fee and just not enter at all OR people will get out the Vegas and won’t be able to afford to play because they didn’t allot for the extra cash. Trust me, this could happen.

As I understand it, the green fee includes open practice, so it probably works out as less expensive generally than paying $1 (or more) per game. A lot of people and teams actually prefer this method.
