I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention one of the favorite matches I saw at Derby. ONE OF, because the pool out there is amazing!
Scott Frost was ahead 1-0 against Jeremy Jones in Round 12 of the One-Pocket division to get into the finals. (Yes, this is the infamous match where the Double-J smashed his cue in half. I watched it happen in utter disbelief with everyone else). Scott left Jeremy a long spot shot with the cue ball frozen to the head rail. Jeremy cut the ball in and came three rails around the table for short side shape on his game-winning ball. It was sweet!
Here’s a diagram of the shot:

I’m not even sure that I drew the lines correctly, but you get the drift. Below is a photo of the table reenactment. After he made the shot, Scott set it back up again.

Scott’s match-winning shot was not cake either. He banked in a ball with speed to win. It was also pretty sporty.

As for me, I have returned home with new inspiration and motivation. Well, after I finish the magazine write up covering the tournament, that is. I’m on a new mission!
A Couple New Pool Goals for 2009:
- Play in another professional event, whether it be a WPBA or open event.
- Run 50+ balls in 14.1

What cue smashing incident? Do tell!
Man, you’re quick!
In Game 3, JJ scratched on a failed safety attempt and in a fit of rage, hit his cue against the corner of the table. The entire butt split in half. Both players took a short break. It didn’t even look like he hit it that hard, but it just cracked right in half.
I talked to Scott afterward, and he was pretty rattled by it. He said they are friends and he’d never seen JJ do that before. That match was a $3,000 swing.
I once played Scott Frost in a local 9-ball tournament in Mesa, AZ. I broke and ran the first rack, and then I simply watched as Scott ran every rack after that. I had no idea who he was at the time, and then later I got to see him play Efren Reyes for $5,000 in a one pocket match-up. Amazing player.
(Frost beat Reyes that day, btw.)

What’s your current high run in 14.1?
It’s an utter joke how not-high my “high” run is. If I told you, I’d have to kill you. But trust me, I’m on the brink of a break through!
Nice site.Thank you for the information given to us and it is very useful. I learned how to play the one hole game and hw to use the tricks.
