Well, it’s official. Colorado’s “Largest (and unfriendliest) Billiard Dealer” is finally closing their doors.
Rarely do I like to post negative stuff about people and businesses here so when I do you should know I mean it.
I guess nearly three decades of poor customer service and overpriced &*%$* has finally caught up with them. I tried to stop by today while I was in the area and their doors were locked to the public. When I called later to do some investigative reporting, I was informed that the retail store is closed but that they’re still doing some repairs from home for now. They’re “downsizing” due to the economy.
Don’t get me wrong. The friends I have that worked there, the actual pool players, were all super cool guys. It was everyone else that was consistently rude and out to get you when you walked in the door or called.
I don’t know what their plans are, but I’m sure they could’ve learn a thing or two about selling billiard supplies from the largest, most courteous retailer I’ve personally ever visited, Peters Billiards. And, of course, everyone could learn a lesson or two on superior customer service from our friends at PoolDawg.
I just wonder what they plan to do with all that stuff!?!!

Samm, wow!!!!!! Another great report calling a spade a spade. Never went to this joint but glad I didn’t; Phoenix has a place that is like the one you describe. Hope the employees find work in a better joint.
U R DA BEST
I lived in Denver for nearly 30 years and frequented Showcase on several occassions to buy accessories and a couple Viking cues for my kids. I never had any problems with Clay and the people there, but I did have a miniscule pang of anxiety when I learned he had been burglarized and I cared about as much for his hurt feelings as he did my broke ass. NONE.
The back custom cue shop was a joke with a couple wannabe cuemakers and his son playing cuemaker with his CNC. Never once did I see a true v-spliced veneered forearm come out of there after Ernie left. Nothing but ugly CNC inlays. Most of the cues he built warped as well after a couple yars. Season woods??? what’s that?. Se la vi!
Ernie Martinez was the ONLY REAL cuemaker( and a Master at that) that ever worked for Clay.
Long Live Ernie!
Wow! I’ve been going to Clay for 20 years now. He was the only one to work on my cues. I had some issues with re-tips from the shop lately but tipically it was a pleasure to deal with him. This economy is hard for everyone, and with the houses not being built, people aren’t installing new tables. I’m sure everyone has different experiences. I will miss them, but then again, I have been dealing with Quality Billiard for almost as long. I wish them all well and hope we can all get this economy running again.

I have known Clay since he had his tiny little shop off 104th and Huron. I have nad nothing but good experieces dealing with Clay. I have found that good and poor quality sticks can be found at all billiard supply shops. I personally have never had a bad experience from Showcase. Longtime customers could always catch a break there on pricing. He did have a master builder in Ernie Martinez, but Ernie being who he is and his skill at masterful building struck out on his own.Who could blame him. Clay should be praised for giving Ernie a place to hone his skills. As far as the guys he had working for him recently, they are decent builders. They made quality cues that fill many a cue case here in Colorado. Sure there are better builders. That would be true in any business. But I cant fathom that they were making junk cues.I will miss seeing Clay and his wife and want to wish them the best!
Their daughter Michele likes to screw with people. She has been harassing a girl for sometime now. Charity, Matt, Chris and Justin thats her gang. She diffently never had customer service she was wrapped in her life and enjoying destorying hers. i feel that their child turned out to be a hyprocrite, sets other people of for failure, breaks in homes, takes pictures of children, and likes to light fires between other people. She is involved in stalking, harassment and their group needs some help. i would think she should put more time in her family owned business. There’s an investigative report for you. Keep the faith
I bought my table from Showcase and found them very pleasant to do business with, I will miss them.
To Melinda..I’v known Michelle for over 15 years now and for you to call her ‘harassing’…Are you kidding?..Did you know one of our so called ‘gang members’ has been fighting a war in Iraq?..Find something better to do than talk trash about people you don’t even know!..Better yet, get off the drugs, evaluate your own life then ask God to forgive you!…
Put that in your pipe and smoke it!..
If you had a bad experience at Showcase then it was your own fault. I have known Clay and Kathy to be the most accommodating and generous people in my life in or out of a business. Sure, their merchandise wasn’t cheap, but neither was their quality, or their willingness to make things right. Nobody knows that they both donated to great causes including victims of Columbine High School. The survivor of this tragedy, I’m sure, has enjoyed many hours of play in the comfort of his home since his injuries were quite severe. That is one of many they have helped. So if you felt slighted by paying a little extra, rest assured that the community has benefited as they have grown. As for this so called “melinda” I didn’t know you could e-mail from your padded room.
I grew up in Thornton and Broomfield. Played leagues in VALLEY, BCA, and APA. My heart is not broken. Rude to say the least. Good buy and good riddance. By the way Ernie is still building QUES. Look him up on his website.
EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET A LIFE!!!!!!
I agree with GFK.
