It’s day 16 of my 19 day road trip and so far I’ve been in six cities, flown 3,118 miles and driven 329 miles with 890 more to go before I make it home.
I opted to forgo my OB Cues qualifier in League City to come freeze my tail off in a bar table 8-ball tournament in Rugby, North Dakota all in the name of L-O-V-E. It’s the 10th Annual Northern Lights 8-Ball Shootout. I finished second last year.
Coming to this tournament meant I had to fly from Charlotte to Minneapolis to Minot yesterday after spending two straight days at King Street Billiards, updating brackets and doing the write up after the 9pm matches and driving three hours back to Charlotte, only to pack up and leaving for the airport three hours later for my 8:45 flight.
There will be no photos for a couple days since I hastily left my laptop at King Street in Fayetteville and don’t have a card reader for my camera.
On the plane to Minot, our pilot thought it would be cute to announce that the current weather in Minot was “minus six degrees.” After the gasp from everyone on the plane subsided, he clarified, “that’s Celsius of course. It’s actually 16 degrees Fahrenheit (like that’s so much better).” [Actually, -6C is more like 21F. I did the math.] I should’ve brought my thermal cue case.
The 8-ball tournament starts tonight at 7pm. There was a 32-player 9-ball tournament that started yesterday and wraps up tonight.
The commentating in Fayetteville for the Great Southern Billiard Tour this week was quite a new and amazing experience for me. I hope that I can have the opportunity to try it again at some point. It was a little nerve-racking but I still had a fun time.
