I’m currently in Charlotte for a week, a trip that was planned about two months ago when I knew I’d be in nearby Atlanta. The plan was to visit my “Charlotte Dad” who’s been very ill for the last 18 months.
On Saturday afternoon, just two hours prior to leaving the hotel for my 9:30 match, I received the news of his passing. Though I was somewhat prepared for it and knew it was coming, it was still pretty devastating.
I took several notes from this weekend of things that I wanted to blog about, but none of it seems very important at the moment.
On Friday, day one of the tourney I met Ezra and Adriene, APA league operators from Oklahoma. Adriene and I bonded instantly and she shared some ominous words with me on that one. She said, “Be thankful for what you’ve accomplished and that you’re here. There are so many people that aren’t here today.” I took it literally and metaphorically.
Please take a moment of silence for Dr. A. Allen Wolf.

Samm, I am very sorry to hear of the passing of someone so dear to you. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you and I’m not much on the email thing (so impersonal). But I thought this was warranted. I just want you to know that I do watch your blog and how proud I am of your accomplishments so far and the way you are chasing your dream. You are an inspiration my dear friend.
Take care of yourself and know I am thinking of you!
Kevin
Oh Dear Samm, I’m so sorry to read you lost your dad.
I know, no words can describe how you feel, I lost my mother, so I know. Even if we know, they are not hurting anymore, we want to have them forever.
I’m giving you a big hug.
Bisous
