Back to work!
After my Fun House getaway for five days and a week long visit here with Mike, he heads back home to Minneapolis and I head back to work.
Work for me means back to the gym, back to the practice tables, and back to the keyboard.
Photos from Jacksonville and highlights & photos from San Diego are still to come.
This Saturday is the Preliminary Round Qualifier tournament for the US Amateur Championship. I won the qualifier last year when it was held at Shakespeares and finished 9-12th in the main event in Atlanta. Three years before that, I qualified and went to Berlin, Connecticut.
To be the US Amateur Champion is quite a prestigeous title. The winner gets their photo and story plastered everywhere (including Sports Illustrated, who recognized last year’s men’s champion) and a paid travel, lodging, and entry into a pro event. Oh yeah! And not to mention the four foot trophy that weighs more than me!
Format (for the Women’s Division):
- Race to 5
- Combination 8-ball and 9-ball
- (3 games of 8-ball)
- (6 games of 9-ball)
- Winner of the lag will choose either Break or Format
- APA rules
- Double Elimination
My Strategy This Year:
- Win the lag
- Choose to break
- Not to give up control of the table
My Personal Mission:
- Not to give up one single game

Good luck! I think it’s unfair to women that the races are shorter for women than men. Men race to 7 (5 eight, 8 nine) in all but the finals. They allow jump cues now. I suggest the Predator Air Jump Cue. This year I am not participating.
