PHX - Day 1

I arrived in Phoenix this afternoon and was greeted by my local friend John. Man! Is it hot here!

First line of business: FOOD!

We almost ended up at this place (Hiy Yah!):

Next, I checked into my room located in the same parking lot as Kolby’s Corner Pocket Billiards, coincidentally where next weekend’s qualifier will be held. I’m pretty happy with the room. The poolroom is quaint as well.

I dropped off my bags and freshened up before heading across the parking lot to hit some balls. As I entered the front door of Kolby’s, I couldn’t help but to notice the smörgåsbord of Arizona pool/billiard publications available outside. Impressive.

I practiced for a couple hours and decided I just wanted to come back to the room and veg out for the evening. It was a long day of packing and travel and all I wanted to do was get into my pj’s and watch random goofy movies on HBO.

Before I left however, I was turning in my balls when a man called Frank came up behind me to say, “Hey! You do those interviews! For uh, uh…” to which I responded, “InsidePool Extreme News!” That was fun to get recognized. We exchanged thoughts on online pool videos for a while, but my pajamas were calling for me so I headed back to the room.

After about 100 crunchies and oblique twists, I finally decided it was time to eat again. So, I headed across the parking lot again to order a salad (because the were completely out of these world famous pretzels I’d been hearing so much about). Of course, in the time that it took me to walk inside to order my food, wait for it and come back outside, it had started raining. Great. It’s 10:30 at night and 90 degrees outside, but it decides to start raining because I finally leave the hotel room. Oh well.

Mmmm… Chef Salad…

Heading to Payson tomorrow afternoon with my friend Susan. I’m feeling pretty excited for this new tournament in a new environment and possibly meeting new people.
