A Professional Response from the BCA
I returned from league tonight to discover a most eloquently-written, professional response from David Vandenberghe of the BCA to my inquiry early this month regarding the Qlympics event. See below:
Thank you for contacting BCA Pool League with some good questions.
Qlympics is an unusual event, including the connection of the hotel with the added money and event payouts. We want to interface with the hotel in a way that minimizes any inconvenience to the players.
I will answer your questions (below) using your numbers.
- The dates posted on our site are accurate. We will start each BCAPL event at 9am, like we do at the Riviera in May. The U.S. Open events will be scheduled for 9am, also. On site entries may delay start times somewhat.
- We will work through sales and the front desk to track the names assigned to the rooms. The hotel will ask for two names for each room at check-in (not when you make a reservation). The hotel will track the info, and we will ask the hotel for updates on a regular basis. Don’t ask reservations about the this when you reserve your room in advance — they may not know the procedure.
- If and when the hotel sells out, the requirement to stay at the hotel will be waived, as you may expect. We do not know if we will get to that point. The unlucky 396th person will share in the added money, but may have to stay elsewhere. If so, we will try to make arrangements for overflow blocks for next year, to ensure a good room at a good rate.
- We will need two prize money breakdowns, for clarity.
- I cannot predict everything that will happen in the future, but I anticipate no similar procedure for the Riviera during the 8-Ball nationals. So long as the Riviera remains at full occupancy, such a procedure would be irrelevant. I do not know what changes would be needed if the 8-Ball event moves to a more expensive hotel. It may depend largely on the involvement (or not) of the particular hotel. We see Qlympics as a unique series of events, with special needs and criteria.
Thanks again for asking. I will post a summary of our answers on line.
I can’t say that I don’t already foresee a few potential hiccups in the system, but I’m flattered and completely impressed with his thoughtful, detailed response to an email from li’l ol’ me.
Unfortunately, my schedule is not going to allow me to attend this year. Good luck to anyone that will be there!
