A Win-Win-Win Situation for Everyone
If you missed out on the fun at the Greenfields “Fun”draiser, then you missed your chance at winning an M-2000 Sardo Tight Rack, a $300 Viper cue and case, a Frog jump cue, a Melissa Little gift pack valuing over $150 dollars, and many, many other great prizes.
You may have seen the ad in the Cue Times last month for the Vegas “Fun”draiser benefiting Volunteers of America and the ladies of Slightly Competitive, Colorado’s ladies masters team. This team includes local faces, Bonnie Plowman, Chris Honeman, Katrina Games (for BCA & ACS), Julie Schultz, Samm Diep, and Cindy Bergeron (for ACS). Last year’s masters team won both the BCA and the VNEA team events. This year, we have our sights set on an unprecedented victory over all three – the BCA, VNEA, and the ACS.
So, as you can imagine travel expenses for three major tournaments in Las Vegas will add up. Fortunately, Greenfields was gracious enough to host a fundraiser pool tournament for us. Since we were raising money for ourselves, why not align with one of my favorite organizations and raise money for them too? So, we joined forces with Volunteers of America of Colorado (www.VOAColorado.org) and a remarkably generous Todd Grosvenor of Greenfields agreed to match every dollar to we’d raise for ourselves that day and donate that amount to VOA. That’s outstanding!
Winner#1 – VOA receives a $1,281 donation, just because. Winner #2 – Thanks to the generous items donated by the community, we were able to give a door prize to every single person that competed in the tournament with enough left over to raffle off. Winner #3 – The ladies of Slightly Competitive raise enough money to help with their upcoming Las Vegas tournament expenses.
Along with the Sardo rack, the pool cues, the Melissa Little gift pack, other great prizes included $60 in Outback Steakhouse gift certificates, $50 in Red Robin gift cards, a $25 Oliveto gift certificate, $20 in Hoffbrau Bar & Grill gift cards, an $80 gift basket courtesy of Slumber Parties by Cathy, a special gift from Trading Post Liquors, a free pie from Granny Scott’s Pie Shop, a gift pack from R Stafford & Co, tons of CDs and DVDs from KOOL105 and KBCO, cases of chalk and free t-shirts from PoolDawg.com, and nearly $100 in photographs and other gifts by Samm’s Side Pocket. Altogether, our sponsors donated well over $1,000 worth of valuable prizes.
It was a double-elimination tournament with 8-ball on the A side and 9-ball on the B side. After losing to Bob Garcia in an earlier match, Teresa Frederick marched through the B side by defeating Stubs who finished with $10 and the Fourth place prize of a Frog jump cue signed by Bonnie Plowman, redeeming herself by beating the one person that she lost to and giving Bob the $20 and the Third place plaque, and battling Kris Pipkin in the finals
After two exciting matches, Teresa came out ahead. Kris finished with $30 and a Second place plaque. In an extraordinary act of kindness, after receiving her First place trophy and $40 winnings, Teresa then turned around and shared half of her prize money with us, donating another $20 to our causes. That’s truly remarkable!
Among the full 16-player field, many of the other supporters were there for the poker tournament and evening pool leagues. Bonnie found herself a great market for the 100 jello shot she was selling. Julie and Samm also baked snickerdoodle and oatmeal cookies, and rice crispy treats. The ladies of Slightly Competitive would like to thank everyone that showed up on Sunday for your tremendous encouragement, Todd & Greenfields Bar for your continued support, all the generous sponsors mentioned earlier, and Gary for your help on Sunday.
